It is disgusting, but mold is everywhere.

Despite the fact that you cannot see mold, it is everywhere and it can cause illness and allergies. All molds are a colony of microscopic fungi. They are the primary agents that cause your food to spoil.

Mold is not all bad, and it has an important function to play in biodegradation, as it breaks down materials into useful natural elements. Some are actually used to produce foods, beverages and medicines. Mold can be useful, but this does not mean that we should forget how dangerous it can be.

Molds mostly thrive on dead organic matter in nature. We have all witnessed mold on our old fruits and vegetables, or growing on other food and drinks inside our refrigerators. They also enjoy living in damp or dark areas such as your bathroom, kitchen, storage areas, plumbing spaces, basement, and areas with poor ventilation or outdoors where it is humid.

Your home may contain black molds, bathroom molds, ceiling molds, wall molds, HVAC vent molds and molds in dust. Not all molds are toxic, by the way. A leaky tap can be the catalyst for mold infestations, so stop possible growth by reducing moisture as much as possible.

In general, mold is moved all over your house through dust particles. Mold is present when someone sneezes uncontrollably, and their eyes itch and water. Other common symptoms are chronic coughing, headaches, rashes, difficulty in breathing, sinus problems, and nasal blockage.

In general, mold affects children more severely than adults, and Penicillium is particularly dangerous. Prolonged exposure to this particular spore can lead to the development of asthma and other breathing issues. If you notice your child sneezing too often without apparent cause, chances are there is tons of Penicillium flying all over the place.

Even though it takes a larger and longer exposure, healthy adults can also experience allergies and respiratory problems thanks to mold. The reason why mold is dangerous is that it can produce mycotoxins. New studies have suggested that prolonged exposure to toxic mold can cause neurological damage or even death.

Mold sensitivity differs from person to person. You may not suffer from any mold-induced health problem at all, but that is not a guarantee that no one else in your family will get throat irritation, a cough or skin rash. People who have existing lung problems will be prone to mold-induced sicknesses and allergies.

Even though you are not affected, it doesn’t mean that someone in your family may not suffer some kind of reaction. Anybody in your family with existing lung problems is likely to feel the effects of mold infestation the most. If you have reasons to suspect mold growing all over your house, you can do simple mold testing yourself.
